I'm glad you found my website. This is me. Not necessarily in this order, but here I am: mother, writer, wife, teacher, pathological reader, and professional juggler (in the metaphorical sense).
My students often ask me whether I prefer teaching or writing the most. My answer usually depends on the day. I don’t believe you have to choose. Teaching writing in the college classroom is a public performance. My personal writing, though, is a private process with a public outcome. My days are filled with brilliant, sometimes apathetic, mostly lovable young adults in various stages of development and piercings. I have the honor of introducing them to my favorite authors and their writings. I get to read their academic and creative writing and help them become better thinkers, writers, and scholars. Most days I am amazed that someone pays me to sit and talk about literature and the process of creating art. And I’m even more flattered when someone actually reads and enjoys something I’ve written. I feel passionate about the teaching of writing and I try to be a model of a writer who values the process as much as the product.
